ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FOUNDATION LOOKS TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FOUNDATION offers its original aluminum direct recycling service along the murcian coast with its solidarity compactors for beverage cans. Under the motto: ‘we believe in the environment and sustainability, we believe in our land’, the network of can compactors from ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE and VERNA advances in its commitment to solidarity recycling and the circular economy.
During this month of June, the murcian brewery has renewed, together with different Town Halls of the Region of Murcia, its solidarity can recycling campaign for the summer of 2023, made up of more than fifty can compactors spread along the beaches of the costa calidad and costa blanca, which are still in uninterrupted service, and which now look as new as the first day.
Through a simple gesture, which is explained at the top of the compactor, any citizen will be able to recycle the cans they consume. It is also important to highlight that the compactors are 100% sustainable, since they work with MUSCULAR ENERGY, that is, no batteries, batteries, or connection to the electrical network are used in the compaction process.
“Recycling is a fundamental piece in the transition towards a circular economy, but only through collaboration between industry and citizens will we be able to achieve true sustainable change”, highlighted the Environmental Manager of the Estrella de Levante Foundation, Juan Antonio Lopez Abadía.

Selective collection is the decisive moment in the beverage can recycling process because, if it is not done correctly, we run the risk of a material as valuable as aluminum ending up as garbage. The impeccable segregation of the compactors of the ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FOUNDATION allows the pressed cans to be stored in comfortable bags that facilitate their subsequent transfer to the recycling plant, where the aluminum is cleaned, melted, and in a few weeks it is returned to the market as raw material. premium, thus closing the virtuous cycle of the circular economy.
According to López Abadía, “thanks to this process, the large number of cans recycled annually makes it possible to counteract the pollution generated by an exhaust pipe in operation for almost 14,000 hours.”
In addition, the company has shown great sensitivity by awarding the management of the maintenance of the southeast compactors to social integration associations such as the Special Employment Center for People with Disabilities of the Gesilda Group in Abarán, AIDEMAR or AFEMAC.
AIDEMAR and AFEMAC users are in charge of maintaining and managing the can compactors. And they are also the beneficiaries of all the income from the sale of recovered aluminum.
The Associations in charge of managing the operation, cleaning and good use of the compactors, AIDEMAR (Association for the Integration of the Disabled of the Mar Menor region) for the north of the Costa Calida, and AFEMAC (Association of Relatives and People with Disabilities ), for the south of the Costa Calida, carry out these paid maintenance tasks, to which is added the amount collected for aluminum.
A task that the associations consider “motivating for users as it promotes their integration and helps them develop a sense of responsibility and commitment to the environment.”
The main objective of the ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FOUNDATION is twofold: to make the population aware of the need to recycle the packaging we consume, and the creation of wealth for social purposes.
Today, aluminum cans require 40% less metal than cans made 25 years ago, and less energy and raw materials. It is a residue that is easy to handle, light, does not break, does not burn, and does not rust. It is easily compacted and has important advantages since aluminum can be recycled without reducing its quality or quantity.
According to the Beverage Can Manufacturers Association of Europe (BCME), making beverage cans from recycled aluminum instead of ore saves 95% of water.

In addition, according to the Environmental Manager Juan Antonio López Abadía, the ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FOUNDATION plans to expand the can recycling service with compactors for the year 2024 and is already in talks with different town halls on the Costa Calida and Costa Blanca to increase coverage current between 10% and 20%.
Reduce, reuse, and as a last option, recycle.
Millions of recycled cans! Millions of thanks!
